Woman killed in Darvel house blaze tragedy

A 65-year old woman has died after a fire broke out at a house on West Main Street in Darvel.

The fire broke out about 4.30pm on Tuesday 6th December, and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue crews from Kilmarnock and Newmilns were called to the scene of the blaze.

Firefighters with breathing apparatus searched the house, and found the 65-year-old in a bedroom but were unable to save her.

A joint investigation has been launched by Strathclyde Police and the fire service.
