The Ayrshire East Foodbank are urgently looking for more volunteers to help at their new premises (in Darvel). The Foodbank relies entirely on the support of the public to help in the various foodbank centres, at supermarket collections, for deliveries and fundraising events. Do you work in Cumnock? Are you willing to transport food to our centre there once or twice a week? We pay mileage so if you have some spare time and are willing to make a special trip up to twice a week - let us know.
The Ayrshire East Foodbank, run by Cheryl and Gordon Cree of Darvel, is one of the busiest foodbanks in Scotland and has helped to feed over 1500 men, women and children since opening a year ago. We work with communities across East Ayrshire to try and stop the hidden hunger that so many people live with. This year, with welfare reforms, the economic downturn and rising cost of living, we expect to feed over 4000 people who would otherwise have had nowhere to turn.
In the last year, we have gathered 15 tonnes of food - all by public donation - to help local people in crisis. The support from every corner of East Ayrshire has been nothing short of overwhelming. This is community at it's very best.
