A man has been killed and another is in a critical condition in hospital following a road crash on the A71 Strathaven Road near Darvel.
The accident happened at around 11.15am on Friday 26th November, when a 26-year-old man was driving his red 3-Series BMW eastbound along the A71 - approximately 2 miles east of Priestland, Darvel - when he appeared to lose control, crossed to the other side of the road and collided with a silver Mitsubishi Shogun towing a horse trailer.
The 26-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock where he is receiving treatment for life threatening injuries. Hospital staff describe his condition as 'critical but stable.'
His 24-year-old brother, a front seat passenger in the vehicle, was taken by air ambulance to Glasgow Southern General Hospital for treatment. He died from his injuries on Saturday 27 November 2010.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 30-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. Hospital staff describe his condition as 'stable.' .
