Magical Christmas Concert in Darvel
Darvel Parish Church reverberated with the sounds of festive enjoyment on Sunday December 11. Gordon Cree arranged an evening of outstanding quality entertainment with an array of artistes of the highest calibre. Geoff Graham showed his versatility and prowess with a number of instruments and the odd humorous tale. He can also sing some of the standards, undoubtedly “Mr. Music”
Gwyneth Guthrie captivated the large audience with her readings and Simon Welsh finished the first act in great style. Two very talented dancers Mark Smith and Eilidh McMillan, who have performed at championship level around the world, gave energy a new meaning with their sets particularly the Rock and Roll with a Highland twist. The singing pupils of Cheryl Forbes made Cheryl proud and enchanted everyone present with their range and quality. Gordon and his Trio gave professional backing to every act and the night finished with everyone singing White Christmas, finished spectacularly by Cheryl, before everyone retired to the Church Hall for a marvellous array of home baking, mince pies, tea and coffee. The proceeds from the event will go towards support for the new Irvine Valley Foodbank. Cheryl Forbes was able to outline this local effort and thanked the artistes, Gordon and everyone who had come along and donated for this worthwhile enterprise. The audience had a wonderful start to the season and thanks from them are due to Gordon and Cheryl for the effort they made to make this a night to cherish.
