10/6/2009Alexander Fleming Memorial Regilded
Funded by Philip and Heather Scott of Lochfield Farm, Loudoun Valley Trust and Galston Rotary Club, the work was carried out to mark the 80th anniversary of Sir Alexander Fleming publishing his discovery of penicillium in the British Journal of Experimental Pathology. The regilding was carried out by John Bayne of Kay Park Memorials.
Lochfield Farm, Alexander Fleming's birthplace and childhood home, has now had the stables and shepherd's quarters converted into self-contained holiday accommodation for the year of the Homecoming.
The regilded memorial was unveiled by Dr Kevin Brown, Trust Archivist and Curator of the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum at St Mary's NHS Trust in Paddington, London.
Provost Stephanie Young, who attended the unveiling, said: "Alexander Fleming is such an important part of our local history and it was an honour to be part of the Regilding Ceremony. The generosity of those who contributed to the regilding is greatly appreciated."
