It must be a joke, it's the nicest village in the Valley, with a great heart and soul and a caring community spirit, what next.
I must agree with Christine, Darvel is a beautiful village with a community spirit which is lacking in many of the newer towns! My family and I love this town and are delighted it has been removed from the Carbuncle shortlist!
What about the old Co-op building, the Turf hotel, all the empty houses, empty factories?
A wonderful community but town centre is an eyesore.

the only flaw in darvel is not the appearance of the town, it's the lacksadasical approaches of the landlords that let any sort of people into their property.
I have been staying in Darvel for close to 3 years now and have fell in love with the place. I thought us Glaswegians had the warmest Scottish welcome till I met the local folk in Darvel. Any friends who visit always comment on my luck at staying in such a great wee village. I need to thank my best pal Alan who encouraged me to stay. And David who feels just at home here as much as I do.
