DARVEL IMPROVEMENT GROUP (DIG)

Darvel Improvement Group (DIG) is a group of local volunteers whose aim is to improve the environment, organise community social events and preserve the history and heritage of Darvel.

DIG holds 3 main meetings each year and smaller subgroups meet as and when necessary.

If you are interested in making Darvel a better place to live, you are welcome to come along to our meetings and find out how you can help or give us some ideas of your own.

If you cannot manage to come along to meetings but would still like to help, email the secretary at aljomorton@msn.com and you will be included in our mailing list when the group is looking for helpers at Cafe Day, Christmas Market, Park and River Tidy up and Garden maintainance etc.

D.I.G. have been notified that they have been nominated for a Community Planning Award in the Improving the Enviroment category, and will be attending an Awards Ceremony on the 26th March 2009 in Kilmarnock.

This is being organised under the "Community Planning in East Ayrshire Partnership" chaired by Douglas Reid, who values the work done on a voluntary basis by individuals & groups within local communities.

It is wonderful that there is a Darvel Improvement Group. There are many places of great beauty here e.g. the River Irvine, Morton Park, Loudon Hill. What spoils Darvel is the Main Street. There are many premises which look run down and dirty. I think that the people responsible for the premises should roll up their sleeves get some fresh paint and soap and water, and take some pride in their businesses. Why should it be down to the Council? A morning's work would make such an improvement.

We are always seeking new members who, apart from helping in a physical sense, can come up with ideas and projects. Our group have committee meetings 3 or 4 times per year. Our secretary will be posting information on this site in the near future so keep checking if interested in joining us.
