Darvel is on the A71 road nine miles east of Kilmarnock and west of Strathaven. The Lang Toon was founded in 1754 by the Earl of Loudon and grew rapidly. In the 19th century a successful lace–making industry was developed, with mills served by the River Irvine. The town's most famous son is Alexander Fleming who discovered penicillin, and Darvel also boasts links to William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, and to the 1st SAS regiment, stationed in the town during the Second World War. 2nd Darvel Brownies need a new Assistant Leader to assist with the running of their pack. The Brownies are a lively bunch of girls with a good attendance and a healthy waiting list, the programme has been organised up until Summer and we require adult help with the smooth running of this, and the many outings that have been planned. Are you aged between 18 - 65 got a few hours to spare on a Wednesday night, enthusiastic and not afraid of hard work then please think about helping us. (continued)
